Speaking of blue water, out on friends boat the other day in 500 about 10 miles off our shoreline. He has triple 300’s. All of a sudden engine 3 goes out and we lose steering. For some reason I suggest we try autopilot. Surprisingly it worked and navigated, very slowly back in through the inlet using just that. Once into our intercostal he tried restarting # 3 and it came on but at reduced rpm but had steering back on. Other issue, no reverse, so luckily we were able to get in into dock. Shut everything down to see if simple reboot of system would clear up problems ( he has the new Yamaha intergrated screen ) and we find nothing would start...
Long story short, we made it.... Knowing you are a boater/ fisherman thought you would enjoy it.
Yes , we had a towing service available but as long as we could get back in we decided to wait, besides his VHF glitched out and he could only receive and not transmit, and 10 miles out we lose cell service.
Ah, the joys of boating.
