I think it’s more likely Trump is positioning himself to plead ignorance of what Mueller is actually doing, when the time comes .
Ditto in regards to his criticism of Sessions. Trump wants the public perception and history to record that these investigations of his political enemies kept him in the dark, to the extent that he sent out tweets that were wildy off the mark.
