Engineer on Florida bridge project called state two days before deadly collapse to report crack, state say
So let’s allow traffic under the bridge then...
“Yeah, Fred, this is Norm. Uh, ....
OK, that’s about it. Nothing critical. It can wait for you to get back from the weekend in the Bahamas. Have a good time and stay outta the papers, my friend!”
Bunny Slippers posted a similar thread just before I posted this one.
Feel free to pull my thread.
I still don't understand the stress testing while traffic sitting under the bridge. That should be subject to murder--negligent or otherwise. Incompetence.
Ban voicemail.
SO-—looks like there was even MORE stupidity predating the resounding stupidity of doing a stress test, causing the bridge to collapse right on top of traffic which should have been re-routed, if only for an hour or two.
Yeah, there needs to be more than minimal fines this time.
People need to serve serious jail time.
All concrete cracks. There was a lack of steel in that bridge.
When Green Corporations construct bridges, this is what will happen.
“Self cleaning concrete”
Total Bravo Sierra.
Leaving a voice mail is no more reliable than putting a message in a bottle and throwing it into the sea.
Well, maybe a little, depending on the currents.
From the article:
At a news conference Friday night, officials from the National Transportation Safety Board said they have just begun their investigation, and cannot yet say whether that cracking contributed to the collapse. They also said workers were trying to strengthen a diagonal member on the pedestrian bridge at Florida International University when it collapsed.
Not having a temporary center support in place was shear stupidity.
I guess we need an assault concrete ban. /sarc

Left voice mail. Covered. Out of the office. Covered. No one is responsible.
...and then there's CRACKS...
...and there are CRACKS!...
So which type of crack did the voicemail report?
