Here is the truncated title:
Engineer on Miami’s ‘Instant Bridge’ that was installed in six hours called state authorities TWO DAYS before deadly collapse that killed at least six to report a CRACK- but no-one got the voicemail
A feature not a flaw. Breakdown of government to avert disasters and save lives seems to be an expected occurence.
Is this Broward County?
Not only that but the bridge fell none of their employees in the company truck!!!!
\
The malfeasance is staggering!
Another bridge they had built collapsed as well.
“....but no-one got the voicemail”
So I see a pattern developing in Florida, no one is doing their job. Not the FBI, not the BCSO, not the Parkland School folks, and now not the bridge builders, and the net result is people are dying.
I am waiting for someone to blame Chinese steel or concrete for the bridge failure. because it’s the government “game” to absolve the guilty and punish the innocent.
As an engineer, I simply can’t believe that a bridge that was supposed to have a mast and cable stays could be put up without them. I mean here in the SF Bay, we’ve replaced the eastern span of the Bay Bridge which includes a cable stayed section. I can assure you that the mast was the FIRST THING to go up and the bridge decks were then supported until the cabling was connected. Someone needs to go to jail for allowing any traffic to flow under this incomplete structure.
Yeah, no worries, man, we got it all under control. *beeeep*
Don’t forget about FlexSeal!
an engineer called 2 days before, left a message, but didn’t try again or call someone else when the message wasn’t returned ? That’s not looking too good for Mr. Engineer. Hope there’s more to his story.
To think they knew it had a crack and:
1. Never worried about getting an answer.
2. Conducted a stress test on it knowing there was a crack and there were people and cars on the bridge at the time.
“Pate warned that the cracking areas would need repairs but assured that, ‘from a safety perspective we don’t see that there’s any issue.’”
Even if they picked up the voicemail it’s not clear it would have made a difference because the engineer said he still thought it was safe. Oops.
Yes! Even better! “No worries, man, we got gorilla tape...” *beeep*
I get the feeling that the fact that they did not get a callback meant that it was okay to have a crack ....no PROBLEM!
Doh! It’s a good thing the local gubmint was notified ahead of time. A lot of good that does these days...
I meant to say that one of the bridge employees, in the engineering company’s truck, had the bridge fall on him .... crushing him.
