More than $10 million, a visit by President Donald Trump, the mobilization of the GOP army all to buy a tie?
Its not just any tie.
Republicans fought to almost (but not quite) even in a district Trump carried by nearly 20 points in 2016, and where Democrats had stopped bothering to even field House candidates in recent cycles. Plus, the district wont even exist this time next year.
Whether Conor Lamb assumes a seat in Congress is almost secondary at this point. He already showed that that red can turn purple and purple can turn close to blue, in the beating heart of Trump country even if that gets done while keeping distance between candidate and national party.
As Republicans pick up the pieces and ponder the prospect of spending more money on Pennsylvanias 18th Congressional District if Rick Saccone wants a recount they will know well that there are easily 100 House districts that are likely to be more competitive than Pennsylvanias special election had any right to be.

Given the choice between voting for and giving money to the Evil Party or the Stupid Party, I'll go with the Stupid (Republican) Party.
Same here. Interestingly, 1972 was the only time I voted for a democrat as well. She was a conservative named Dixie Lee Ray.
More than $10 million
Didnt the Dems spend more than that? And all we hear is Republicans are losers. Saccone wasnt a good candidate? Republicans need to realize that being a candidate is NOT SOMEONES TURN! Pick a good candidate, EVERYWHERE.
I agree. This is happening a little too often now.
This guy will be allowed to play it safe for 8 months.
Just watch!
FOX had many RINOs on knocking our candidates. So GOPe happy with losing the House.
Thank God for that because the globalist Free Trader Republicans suck.
The Democrat candidate is a pro-gun military veteran, and outspent his Republican opponent five to one.
I'm sure the beltway GOP would be happy to lose the House and Senate and see Trump impeached.
(I've never been more proud not to be a Republican.)
Trumpism? Really? Economic nationalism WINS every time.
You again?
Consider the possibility that the Pelosi wing is past it's prime. If the GOP isn't careful, the pendulum might hit them on it's way back.
No - Lamb only got $1.8 million from outside groups. (Saccone ended up with $10.6 million in outside money.)
There won’t be 100 open seats. The incumbent always has the advantage.
True!
