About 25yrs ago Mexico melted down a bunch of X-ray machines complete with the source still inside. It was made into rebar and rod that was used to make patio furniture.
It was so hot it supposedly would render you sterile in minutes. If it weren’t for a load of rebar that set off radiation detectors when it entered the Nevada Test Site, it might have never been discovered.
If the steel was that radioactive, it doesn’t give me a warm fuzzy feeling about our ability to detect a nuke coming in via truck.
