The Turkish military says it has surrounded the Kurdish-held city of Afrin in northern Syria, the focus of an offensive against a Kurdish militia.
A statement said troops and allied Syrian rebels had also captured "critically important areas".
Kurdish sources said all roads into Afrin were being targeted by shellfire, but denied that it was encircled.

A year ago, Turkey shot down a Russian jet and killed the pilot as he parachuted down. They even televised the murder.
Russia responded by pulling all its tourist VISAS to Turkey.
Putin and Erdogan are not the buddies you think they are. They will stab each other in the back at a moments notice.
Sec Tillerson's the lap dog more so than Sec Mattis in my opinion.
We'll see what happens in Manbij once NATO member Turkey gets done whipping the Kurds in Afrin.
I wish to hell Trump said to Erdogan: You can stay in Syria or you can stay in NATO, not both. And, if you are not going to stay in NATO, you will find us moving forcefully with the Kurds in Syria.
Now is this enough for us to toss Turkey from NATO?
