Thousands of pounds of human waste, close to 14,000 hypodermic needles cleaned out from Santa Ana River homeless encampments
Orange County Public Works released eye-popping figures Thursday, March 8, on the total amount of debris, needles and hazardous waste removed when crews cleaned up the area along the Santa Ana River Trail once populated by the encampments of homeless people.
Heres what was collected between Jan. 22 and March 3 from a more than two-mile stretch of bike trail roughly from I-5 in Orange to Ball Road in Anaheim, according to OC Public Works spokesman Shannon Widor:
404 tons of debris
13,950 needles (approximate number based on what disposal containers hold)
5,279 pounds of hazardous waste (human waste, propane, pesticides and other materials)
Before and after photographs published by the Register last week show stark differences at different spots along the trail, as does a video the county posted Feb. 28 on YouTube.
More than 700 people were living in the encampments when they were dismantled in late February. Most of those people are being housed temporarily in local motels while county outreach workers assess their need for services and housing.
The bike trail cleanup is the beginning of an environmental remediation effort that was expected to include the removal of 2 to 3 inches of soil in the project area and tree trimming. Planned improvements on the bike trail from Katella to Ball Road/Taft Avenue also could include sealing cracks and applying a slurry seal, Widor said.

Illegals held in detention facilities/jails should be put on chain gang type programs and made to clean it up.
Obviously, they should stop feeding the homeless so much. And where does the money for all those drugs come from the Free Feel Good Drug Fund?
This is all okay!! It’s what they want there! Just look at how they vote....
I see your point.
This is one example of why Calif. has the lowest quality of life of all states.
And where does the money for all those drugs come from the Free Feel Good Drug Fund?
Likely some/most of it comes from you and I, via their EBT cards.
Will trade EBT $$ for drugs!
Soylent comes in only one color-Green!
We moved out of OC over twenty years ago when our emplyment left and so glad we did. Don’t even much like visiting there any more. So crowded, expensive, and gang graffiti everywhere.
Someone could make a great graphic, based on that.

Sago (or whatever that great artist’s name is) could do wonders with this.
Sounds like you got out of CA just in time.
What part of TX did you move to?
I pray you didn’t bring any libs with you :-)
They need rounded up and put in STALAGS.
Hep C can live on a surface for three weeks. HIV can survive in syringes for about three weeks, Hep C in a syringe for 2 months.
Whose job it is in Orange County to weigh the feces of the homeless?
the homeless will just trash the motels and them move on to the next area they will trash, and the cycle will just continue unto the homeless themselves are either deported or committed to mental facilities.

Uh oh! Liberals aren’t going to be happy.
A lot of the homeless receive checks from the counties. Its a form of welfare. I forget what their called but when I worked for our welfare department I processed their food stamp apps and saw it listed as income. Back then they had to pick up their indigent checks and food stamps at a local post office. Now its just all reloaded onto an ebt card.
I would add that the city leaders who want to flout the law and give aid and comfort to the Illegal Invaders also be pressed into service with the clean up. After all, the mess belongs to them.
I have that little guy and have to watch his every move. Im always on high alert when we visit parks, beaches etc..you never know these days!
Speaking of beaches, disgusting how many needles and other paraphernalia volunteers picked up during a recent beach cleanup. Homeless arent supposed to sleep, camp at the beach but you see them all the time.
