Pauline Kael, nutcake movie critic of Newsweek, in 1972 after Richard Nixon beat McGovern - “I just can’t understand how Nixon won; just everybody I know voted for McGovern”. Nixon won 61 percent of the vote, although I agree that the people Miss Kael knew on the Upper West Side of NY and Hollywood were probably not part of it.

Pauline Kael later acknowledged Nixon voters existed, thus:

“Where they are, I don’t know; they’re outside my ken. But sometimes, when I’m in the theater, I can feel them.”

She no doubt could sense evil vibes emanating from the Nixon people, alerting her to their presence.
