Consumers acting like they're in Congress. Ugh. Is this the next bubble to pop and crash the economy like the housing fiasco?

I’m happy to say that this house and family have exactly ZERO dollars in debt.

Debt is slavery and someday people will come to their senses and see that again.

I account for none of it. At least for more than 30 days out.

So why are the CC firms of MC/Visa etc allowed to run a monopoly on high fees?

Hey, that guy has a shiny thing. It’s not fair. Why shouldn’t I have a shiny thing too? It’s only 20% interest after all.

An amount of debt is like a change in the stock market: percentage is what counts.

Coupled with 70+% of people in this country having $10K in the bank......coupled with the student debt delinquent totals...coupled with this country’s unfunded liabilities....yeah, this country, as with much of the world if the U.S. economy collapses, is headed for an impending economic reckoning of epic proportions. Not a matter of ‘if’, it is a matter of ‘when’!

You cannot get ahead if GM financial and Fannie Mae own most of your paycheck, pure and simple.

That reminds me, I have to send in a payment for .000000001% of that.

I wonder if the total includes people like me who try to charge everything possible on a credit card, paying the balance off every month. The reason is that the bank pays me more of a percentage of the debt incurred than it does on a savings account. It ranges from 1.75% to 5.25%.

Like most, we hold a few store type cards, such as Home Depot, Menard’s, etc. Have you ever actually looked at their interest rate? It’s like between 26% and 28%!

Absolutely insane! (But I’ll take your points without carrying a balance.)

Haven't been a part of this (CC debt) for over 10 years. Debt free for 8.

Amazing how little you actually need to spend.

US credit card debt tops $1 trillion for the first time

Yeah, but the combined minimum monthly payment due on this is only $17.00 per month.

Got rid of mine (except one - a veterinary Care Credit card) about 5 years ago. Paid ‘em off and closed ‘em. Took a loan out against my 401K to pay ‘em off. The interest rate was better that way.

Yeah, there’s been a time or two where it’d have been nice to have one - but all in all, I’m way good.

At the end of the day stuff like this just results in the election of people like Elizabeth Warren.

I use a credit card because you pretty much have to in this day and age. But its paid off every month. If I can’t pay off the card, I don’t buy it.
