WASHINGTON Attorney General Jeff Sessions sued California this week for not doing enough to find and punish unauthorized immigrants, and said on Wednesday he was girding for an epic battle.
California is using every power it has and some it doesnt to frustrate federal law enforcement, he said in a speech in Sacramento. So you can be sure Im going to use every power I have to stop them.
One of the weapons Mr. Sessions is counting on is a 2012 Supreme Court ruling siding with the Obama administration, which had sued Arizona for violating federal immigration laws. But in that case Mr. Obamas lawyers accused the state of going too far in trying to find and punish unauthorized immigrants.
The state may not pursue policies that undermine federal law, Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote for the majority.
So it may turn out that the principle of federal supremacy over immigration established by the Obama administration will help the Trump Justice Department achieve diametrically different goals.
The tables are turned, said Peter J. Spiro, a law professor at Temple University.

Spot on. These people need to be arrested.
#14. While “hoisting liberals on their own petards” might feel nice, a more forceful “shoving a sized 12 boot up their leftist butts (in court, mainly, but the media is another place for another “foot”), would be more painful, damaging, and lesson-teaching.
The “Left” is authoritarian, totalitarian, racist, Marxist, anti-American, anti-capitalism, anti-white, anti- Christian, anti-Jewish, and down right ignorant, intolerant, and egomaniacal to the point that they are both sociopaths and psychopaths at the same time.
Freud is having twin headaches at trying to figure them out despite the fact that he has been dead a long time.
Re another comment, let the case go to the Nutty Ninth Circuit Clownshow of a Court, where it will rule against the US Government despite the Arizona ruling.
Then it will go up on appeal to the Supreme Court where even Justice Kennedy will now have to concede that the federal government, in the person of the President of the United States, has the CONSTITUTIONAL powers to determine immigration policy. End of story.
Put these STINKIN’ LIBERALS IN JAIL for the MAXIMUM TIME and give them the MAXIMUM FINE for aiding and abetting CRIMINAL ALIENS !
Nyahnyah.
As I read the law: I think the California liberal politicians are subject to the death penalty. That might get their attention.
Well, it is the Washington Post, after all.
Id prefer having assets taken from intransigent mayors and pols. Make them poor and destitute...forever.
Jailing them is temporary, makes them martyrs and has no deterrent effect.
It’s time for Sessions to make the same move on New York City.
I have a better idea, get all bull dozers, large loaders and whatever other construction equipment is used to push real estate, line them all up side by side on the Calif border, and push the whole state into the ocean.
Then watch all the rats flee the sinking ship.
(The problem with the above statement is folks like Hank Johnson will believe it’s possible)
I assume the NYT meant he was targeting ILLEGAL ALIENS, not immigrants.

And, there’s the rub, no?
Govt can’t walk and chew gum, unless it’s vs. us pleebs.
Sessions, to show he meant biz, only needed to have a few heads of govt arrested for obstruction/aiding/abetting. He could have cited chapter and verse, used the same lingo as Zero in his opening on WHY this was happening, then go into the court case.
Sorry, but the case allows CA and others to bide their time as it winds through, while allowing the illegality to continue.
First rule of a sinking ship and all that...Sessions punts and starts on Step > 1 of the process.
If you deny liberals their double standards they'll have no standards at all.
Hashtag: #SaveLibStandards
Since when wouldnt the Democrats want it both ways when it suits them? They have nothing but contempt for the rule of law.
Exactly. They were cheering when Benito Obama rushed in to prevent those racists in Arizona from enforcing immigration law by tightening their own state regulations.
The curse of Obama lives...
You charge them with a felony and they cannot hold or run for political office...
“Unauthorized immigrants”
Is that like saying a burglar is an undocumented visitor?
Bank robbers are just undocumented customers.
You trust Kennedy with that?

Thanks NRx.
“Its time for Sessions to make the same move on New York City.”
Well, well past time.
The strategy of the opposition had to be allowed to unfold itself in order to effectively thwart it.
