This also reminds me a bit, of how New York City had term limits for mayor. Mayor Bloomberg somehow got a waiver and was allowed to run and be elected to a 3rd term as mayor. I don’t recall the details, but, I think somehow he got the city council to override the term limits for him. And he was elected to his 3rd term.

Supposedly they had term limits in place, but Mayor Bloomberg and his henchmen found a way around that.

Very infuriating.

I lived there at the time, and I distinctly remember very obvious fake ‘terrorist threats’ where the NYPD raced down the subways with dogs and all kinds of gear that looked like it came from Iraq.

He needed to look like he will “keep us safe”.

As soon as the last vote was counted the police and the dogs were all called off and nothing more was said or done.

Clearly a snow job. Manhattanites fancy themselves as so sophisticated and chic. Those days are long gone.
