China says to 'take necessary measures' if US harms trade

Beijing (AFP) - China will "take necessary measures" if the United States harms the country's economic interests, a Chinese official said Sunday, as President Donald Trump plans to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium.

"China doesn't want a trade war with the United States," Zhang Yesui, spokesman for the National People's Congress, told a news conference on the eve of the rubber-stamp parliament's annual session.

"But if the US takes actions that hurt Chinese interests, China will not sit idly by and will take necessary measures," Zhang said in China's strongest reaction yet since Trump announced the levies on Friday.

President Xi Jinping's top economic aide, Liu He, met with US officials at the White House this week to discuss the fraught economic relationship.

Trump's announcement has sparked a flurry of counter threats from other nations, sparking fears that it will trigger a tit-for-tat trade conflict around the globe.

Trump has shrugged off the threat, boasting on Friday that "trade wars are good, and easy to win".

Gee, China sure seems touchy over "2% of US imports of steel".

That's because they produce 75% of the world's steel and have the capacity to produce 100%. And they ship that steel (it's fungible) to South Korea, Mexico, Brazil etc. for trans-shipment into the US.

Yes, trade wars are easy to win when your adversary is totally dependent upon access to your market...the largest market in the world.

In 2017 China imported $130 bil in product from the US and exported $505 bil, for a surplus of $375 bil. And they've been doing it for 30 years.

“China doesn’t want a trade war with the United States,”

China has been in a trade war with the United States for the last 45 years and so far has only faced unilateral American capitulation.

Hmmm. But we’re not supposed to do the same when US interests are damaged?

Fixed it.

USA will “take necessary measures” as China has harmed and continues to harm the USA’s economic interests, President Donald Trump said.

I guess that when they say “HARMS TRADE” what they mean is when we stop giving them a huge advantage.

They’ve already tried it and it didn’t work with their proxy in North Korea threatening us with nukes.

“Trump will get them to the table and they will like it. “

Then he’ll feed ‘em a sh!t sandwich and they’ll ask for more.

Just about every country in the world has a surplus in trade with us.

Exactly.

Contrary to the simpering wimps who get most of the ink and air time president Trump isn't starting a trade war - he is trying to end the ongoing trade war against the USA.

The various trade agreements made over the years by our leftist/globalist politicians amount to nothing more than agreements to allow other countries to suck wealth out of the USA.

Ross Perot warned the nation about the NAFTA agreement back in 1992 but idiots went ahead and elected Bill Clinton who signed NAFTA into law in 1993.

But the blame doesn't rest totally with Bill Clinton - Republicans in the Senate voted overwhelmingly to approve the bill before it went to Clinton.

Almost 25 years ago the NAFTA bill passed the senate 61–38 with the support of 34 Republicans and 27 democrats.

Now we finally have a president who wants to put America first by elinminating or re-negotiating the bad trade bills previous administrations have saddled us with.

Good, that will be our relationship. They can use things made in China, and we can use things made in USA.

“The various trade agreements made over the years by our leftist/globalist politicians amount to nothing more than agreements to allow other countries to suck wealth out of the USA.”

Its been the largest transfer of capital stock in the history of man. And it was presided over by the bi-partisan US Congress with the help of every POTUS since Reagan. Even reaching back to Eisenhower.

The payers of the US Congress skim off the top of that transfer, and fund the Congressional elections...both sides.
