The last of more than 700 homeless people living in the tent encampments at the Santa Ana River Trail left on Monday 697 of them gone to motels.
In the days since, Orange County Public Works crews have cleared away most of the debris left behind on a roughly two-mile stretch from I-5 in Orange to Ball Road/Taft Avenue in Anaheim. It wont be known until next week just how much trash, feces, discarded syringes and other hazardous waste was collected, said OC Public Works spokesman Shannon Widor.
The last official tally from the county was on Feb. 9, with these estimates:
215 tons of trash or debris 1,165 pounds of hazardous waste, including human and pet feces 5,115 needles These numbers are expected to go up significantly based on the ongoing clean-up, Widor said Thursday. Once the clean-up is done, county workers will do maintenance and repairs that could include removing 2 to 3 inches of soil in the project area and trimming trees. OC Public Works also plans to make improvements on the bike trail from Katella to Ball Road/Taft Avenue that includes sealing cracks and applying a slurry seal, Widor said.
There is no start date yet for that work, he added. The maintenance was expected to take about three months when an initial start was made in late January, depending on weather or other issues. In the meantime, the area where the tent encampments were remains closed to the public. Access hours on the rest of the trail are now 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Oct. 31.

More on this ongoing story. Great pictures at the link.
Nice, now I wonder if it will last or just create problems in other areas.
That is just ridiculous.
I got to think that Arte Moreno and the Angels said “enough”...the season starts in a month.
Believe me the Tent city that was right next to the Big A AKA Angel Stadium was much worse than that picture depicts.
Who is paying for their motel rooms?
It’s going to be nice until their hotel vouchers expire. Then they will camp on other river paths. After they move to those, the situation will repeat itself.
The only good thing about giving them a hotel room is that they have a real chance to get clean and get a job. I wonder how many will take advantage of this situation.
Open borders creates all sorts of problems.
All homeless people in the US should be dumped off in downtown berkeley with as much liquor that they can carry
SanFranNan and DiFi have huge mansions. Move them in!
The taxpayers of Orange County, California.
“All homeless people in the US should be dumped off “
Policing agencies used to do this; they would drive undesirable people to the edge of town or the county and tell them to keep on moving. There was a town in CA that got in trouble for buying bus tickets for homeless people sending them to another out of county town. Cops used to be able to tell people to, “Move along, “ but no longer. A homeless guy hangs out in front of the public library whistling at little girls but the police say they can do nothing.
Can you see why the fine people of Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills did not feel safe riding the river bike trail?
I have actually seen LA sheriff deputies dropping homeless men off on Fullerton Road in Fullerton, Ca. Law inforcement in LA appears to be relocating homeless from high density homeless areas such as downtown LA to quiet suburban areas.
They got them all cleaned up and into high paying jobs.
Yes it does. I don’t know if just a month ( whatever the time didn’t read much sorry) or even three months if it’s enough time without a lot of other help to keep them off the streets. I bet you could easily clear 15,000-20,000 homes in Santa Ana to Anaheim of illegals and fit a LOT of American homeless in there.Do that in all of LA,Oranges and SD counties and I have a feeling there would be more vacancies than homeless people.
A long-ago boss grew up on the mean streets of St. Louis in the 40s. He used to tell stories of the beat cops whacking the sleeping bums and vagrants on the soles of their feet with their nightsticks — hard! “KEEP MOVING” was the order. It was that way in most cities at the time and social/civic life in cities was pretty good. You could enjoy clean streets and pleasant parks. A needle was never seen. Then bleeding heart liberals got in power...
A workers paradise in the Peoples Republik Of Kalifornia.
My account of history has California leading the nation in leftism since the 50’s, starting with the beatnik movement which transformed into the hippie culture, homo etc. All of which spread to the rest of the land. NYC and others in the north east may have had their beginnings too, but nothing compared to California. It has literally gone unchecked since the 50’s.
My point is, where will this state be in 20 years? To what point of disaster will it drag the rest of the nation to?
The same people who were paying for Sessions' dinner last night at the high end restaurant.
