Teen who planned Islamic State-inspired terror attack in Cardiff named for first time as he's jailed for life
Lloyd Gunton, 17, planned to drive a car into a crowd of people and had a martyrdom letter and weapons in his bedroom
A teenager who plotted an Islamic State-inspired terror atrocity in Cardiff on the day pop superstar Justin Bieber played in the city can be named for the first time.
Lloyd Gunton, 17, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 11 years at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday for planning an attack in the Welsh capital.
Ordering Gunton to be detained at Her Majestys pleasure, Judge Mark Wall QC told the former A-level student: At the time of your arrest you were within hours of committing an act of atrocity on the streets of Cardiff.
It is not possible to estimate how many people would have been murdered or seriously injured by your actions as the attack was foiled before you could undertake it.
I am sure that you planned not just the killing of one person but rather mass murder.
During his trial and when he was convicted of five terror charges the teenager, from Llantrisant in Rhondda Cynon Taf , could not be named owing to a reporting restriction in place because of his age.
But that was lifted by a judge on Friday as Gunton, 17, was jailed over his plan to drive a car into a crowd of people in Cardiff.
Im sure the lefties take great satisfaction taking cover behind the phrase jailed for life knowing full well that their little spawn will be out roaming the streets in possibily 11 years.
LOL! Life is cheap in England.
He might like it. There’s something about that face that makes me think of an incipient transgender.
He’ll be out in 11 years,still in his 20s.
.
And he’s not muslim.
I could see the reaction if they did this to a muslim kid.
Why imprison someone for life? Just execute them.
Wonder if the judge would have disclosed his identity had he been one of the ‘sensitive class’ as they now call them.
A life sentence over there is only 20 years on the high end. Sentencing in England is a disgrace. Especially compared to the US.
