Just saw Wilbur Ross, US Commerce Secretary on CNBC do a GREAT job of setting straight all the naysayers on these tariffs and possible ‘reciprocal taxes’.
I would only direct Mr. Levin to watch that interview. Actually, watch it twice, then maybe he’ll learn something.

If nothing else, this is going to be a great test of the free trade vs. protectionist debate. The free traders have had decades of their preferred policy in place. Now let’s see what the protectionists can do.
If the steel industry flourishes in the USA, most of Levin’s points won’t matter.

Free trade is a mug’s game. Fair trade is the proper aim.
The chinese are eating our lunch, and that lunch was given to them by a bunch people looking to make a buck at any cost, up to handing our manufacturing base over to a bunch of communists.
I mean, what could possibly go wrong here? WTF are these people thinking?
My bet is that they sold the US out over the last 30 years thinking that they could get theirs, screw over the domestic market, and retire to some far off country.
At this point, our domestic manufacturing base has been decimated, like a carpet bombed germany. This has been going on for thirty plus years. Almost two whole generations.
We now do not have the resources, knowledge, manpower, or capital to even revive basic industries if the communist chinese decided to put an embargo on the US.
People just don’t realize how much of our consumer goods are either directly or indirectly sourced out of china.
With this steel an aluminum tariff thing. This is direct tariffs on metal stock. It doesn’t do squat for all of the FINISHED goods and parts which are an order of magnitude greater than any raw stock.
It is only a tax if u buy the product that has a tariff on it.
Plenty of compatable buying choices out there.
Move or build plants in the US and avoid tariffs.
And create more American jobs.
It is a poor policy. Why are foreign prices lower? Rules etc. passed by Congress raised American costs. In time believe the Presidents programs will correct this imbalance, but it takes time. Tariffs are not the best way to correct and may be harmful.
We need to restore Made in America.
Everything we buy is Made in China, an enemy of our country.
Our industries cannot compete and get destroyed.
Free trade is for nations who have a market system.
The stocks dropped quite a bit thanks to a stream of twitter thought by Trump. He should stop and think before posting.
He can post things like Sessions is fired or the Clintons and obama have been arrested for treason instead.
Reign in an out-of-control EPA and watch what happens to the price of American steel and aluminum.
Do that and tariffs would not be necessary.
I guess Levine’s ratings are high enough now so he can get back to bashing Trump. Surprised he held back this long.
