Mr. McKellan cannot hide from God. He is acting stupidly.
It sure is handy to edit the Word of God. That way you can’t be found with sin in your life because you removed His word saying what you do is sin.
Freaking Mensa brilliance.
“Homosexuals aren’t ‘born that way’.
They had to ‘EARN their REPROBATE MIND’ by refusing God ~ not once, ~ not twice, ~ but THREE times!”
Powerful message and great post. However, I do want to draw your attention to the fact that homosexuality is distinguished in Romans 1 from reprobation. This demonstrates that homosexual lust and activity is NOT the ultimate perversion called a “reprobate mind” in the KJV.
Some theologians debate whether anyone can ever recover from reprobation. My opinion is that it can and has happened, but is exceedingly rare.
One thing is clear though. Societies down through history that came to accept homosexuality as normative were ultimately destroyed because of it. And America is now at this stage. In fact, most of the world, for the first time in history, is at this stage or nearly to it. So the world is about to face the judgment Christ said matched the perversions that occurred in the days of Noah and of Sodom.
This perversion is manifest when there is an attempt to enter into sexual relations with angels. (This happened in the days of Noah and of Sodom, and represents the extreme nature of the homosexual or otherwise perverted sexuality of the people during those times.)

Matthew 12:31-32 Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the age to come.
Even homosexuals have reason to repent...if they have not blasphemed the Holy Spirit.
I hate homosexuality as much as any sin, but, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is...the end of the line.
This a note of consideration for inclusion into everyone’s prayers and studying to show yourselves to be approved.
We all have only one shot at this. Except those that have blasphemed the Holy Spirit.
Well stated Yosemitest!
only the unsaved can commit blasphemy of Holy spirit- The Christian can not- blasphemy is an unforgiving sin/lifestyle of opposition to God/Christ, however, when a person is born again, He is forgiven of all sins so that he becomes sinless in the sight of the Lord- IF he could commit blasphemy later in life- obviously he could not have been forgiven of all sins at the point of salvation- IF he were able to later commit blasphemy, then He was NOT seen as sinless in the sight of the Lord, and he could never have gained salvation in the first place- The seal of salvation can not be broken- not even by us-
“him that cometh to me (Jesus) I will in no wise cast out.”
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him” (John 6:44), and “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away”
Blasphemy can only be committed by the unsaved who affirm their final rejection of Christ by blaspheming the Holy Spirit- They were never saved- A Christian certainly can not come to a ‘final rejection’ because the ACCEPTED Christ at the point of Salvation- the unsaved person never did
Mark 3:29 says, “whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin”
Note carefully that it says they WILL NEVER BE forgiven- The saved person has been forgiven- the unsaved who blasphemies will never be forgiven
But yes, we should all still study to show ourselves approved unto God- Our goal is to be conformed to the image of Christ- however, our salvation does not rest on anything we do or don’t do once we are saved-
one more quick point for those who might be worried about whether or not they are capable of blasphemy- most pharisees were blatant blasphemers- living lives of blatant sustained and public blasphemy of the Holy Spirit- They could never be saved or forgiven- Paul was a pharisee who none-the-less never committed blasphemy and later became saved- God was able to save Paul because Paul had never committed that particular sin as an unsaved person, and so God was able to save him later in his life- IF however an unsaved person commits blasphemy, he can never be saved- He willfully and permanently rejects the saving power of Christ
“Even homosexuals have reason to repent...if they have not blasphemed the Holy Spirit.”
Agreed. My point is in fact that homosexuality is not the final and irrecoverable state of sin. Indeed the Bible attests that some homosexuals do repent unto salvation:
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the opposite of “calling upon the name of the Lord”. Calling on the name of the Lord is how a person is saved. But this is often misunderstood as merely saying the “sinners’ prayer”. A believer is, by definition, one who calls (ongoing) upon the name of the Lord Jesus.
Can an unbeliever call Jesus Lord?
1 Corinthians 12:3
Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.
A person can say the word “Lord” to describe Jesus, but he or she can not truly call Him Lord from a heartfelt belief without the enablement of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit can be grieved. He can be quenched. And worst of all, He can be blasphemed. The Holy Spirit will come to a place in which He will “no longer strive with man”. This is a truly terrifying testimony because without His operation in the human truly calling on the name of the Lord for salvation is an impossibility.
“I’m not interested in the rhetoric of theologians. I’ll stick with the Bible... You’re straining at a gnat.”
That is a very confrontational response you are using to someone who basically agreed with you other than a small BUT important issue. Jesus said these words (i.e. “straining at a gnat”) to His enemies who were trying to murder Him.
“Read Romans 1:28 of the King James Version (KJV) again.”
Verses 26 and 27 refer to homosexual lust and sexual activity. These come BEFORE verse 28.
So, as I said homosexuality is NOT the same thing as a reprobate mind.
A reprobate mind is even worse than that particular sexual perversion.
Rightly dividing the word of truth is not straining at a gnat.
Titus 1:16
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Notice how it describes “every good work” in this verse.
As in Romans 1, a reprobate is devoted to evil. A reprobate is completely turned upside down in his or her thinking and perception of morality. A reprobate, according to this text, is “filled with all unrighteousness”. They are not struggling with sin but delight in it, and devote themselves to it. Certainly this includes sexual perversions such as homosexuality, but it also includes other sins like murder and rebellion.
There are homosexual people who are still trying to do good deeds and seek to please God. Romans 1 describes those in this state as worshipping and serving the creation more than the Creator. It is not that they do not attempt to serve or please God. They simply care more for the pleasures of the world than God. Of course their religion and good deeds will avail them nothing without repentance and submission the Gospel of Christ. But there is a very important distinction between people in this state, who sometimes do respond to the Gospel (see 1 Corinthians 6:11) and those who are reprobate and eternal enemies of the Gospel.
Romans 1:28
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.
This describes a specific transition by an individual or group from engaging in sexual perversion to reprobation. It is the true nature of atheism, which is not really a skepticism or denial of God’s existence but more of a hatred and contempt for it. Homosexuality, as you have correctly described it, is a judgment from God. It is also a final warning for an individual or group, such as a nation, that the final stage of moral decline before destruction has already happened. Reprobation is that final stage.
Peter describes them thus:
2 Peter 2:2-3
And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
What is promised here is “swift destruction”.
In the cases of the days of Sodom and the days of Noah, which Christ compared to the last days before His return, humans were engaging in, or attempting to engage in, sexual activity with angels. This can only be categorized as “reprobation” and leaves nothing but impending doom. Noah typifies the extent of the coming destruction of the world—in totality. Sodom typifies the type of the final destruction—with fire.
“I disagree ! And I have backed it up with the Bible.”
Look, I did not comment to you to pick a fight or start an argument.
I’m just a man and make mistakes. I will allow for the possibility that I am wrong and you are right. But, as it stands, my understanding of the term “reprobate” as used in the Bible is that it is referring to something that is beyond homosexuality alone. Yes, it can include and may operate as a continuation of this abomination, but it is also something more.
I did provide my scriptural basis, but if it was unclear I will restate it and elaborate:
Romans 1:25-27
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Verses 25-27 explain that homosexuality happens as a consequence of people exchanging the truth of God for the lie and worshipping the creation more than the Creator.
A pattern emerges in this passage in which the ungodly and unrighteous “they” receive judgments which place them into four distinct conditions or states of being...
1) a diminished capacity to understand spiritual things (i.e. foolish and darkened heart), and futile creativity (i.e. vain imaginations).
This progressed (due to unrepentance) to a particular kind of foolish and vain course of action...
2) sexual lust and unclean sexual acts
Unclean sexual acts include various things, such as heterosexual sex when the woman is menstruating. But (again due to unrepentance) this progressed to a further type of unlean sexual behavior...
3) homosexual lust and sexual activity
And (due to continued unrepentance) this progressed into...
4) A reprobate mind.
We see this in the remaining verses:
Romans 1:28-31
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful.
Notice that homosexuals are being described in verses 25-27, and those with a reprobate mind are being described in verses 28-31.
The precursors to each of the four conditions I described are...
1) Unthankfulness. Pride. Failing to give God the glory He is due. (vv 21-22)
2) idolatry in various stages and extremes (v 23)
3) rejection of a Biblical theology (i.e. knowledge of who God is) as well as the Bible (the Word is truth), and a type of idolatry that makes the creation more important than the Creator (but does not necessarily exclude the Creator entirely) (v 25)
4) resisting and fighting against the very thought of God (v 28)
As you have pointed out in your original post, homosexuality is a divine judgment and consequence of specific acts of disobedience to God.
My only point was to distinguish between those who are homosexual but not necessarily totally reprobate in their minds. And the reason I think this is important is because there are homosexuals who know their lusts and desires are shameful, and they desire to change. God intends to use this shame and guilt to drive them to the cross.
However, if they harden their hearts to God’s grace and mercy, they will eventually become militant homosexuals, or practitioners of other forms of sexual deviancy along with many other wicked things like murder.
Contextually, the Gospel message is still for even those who have sunk into the abominable practices of homosexual lust and sex.
And those who have not done these deeds must humble themselves and come in the same manner to the same cross for forgiveness. For there is no difference between the “we” of chapter 3, the “you” of chapter 2, or the “they” of chapter 1. See 3:22-23.
