McAuliffe became governor because Virginia Establishment Republicans and Never-Cuccinellis deserted the conservative candidate and supported democrat McAuliffe rather than lose control of the party.
In 2020, the establishment RINOs and the Never-Trumpers will still be out there.

McAuliffe - sure why not? A Clinton bag-man, a man incapable of speaking the truth and a slime-ball to rival Bill and Hillary. As Hillary will be too old, why not one of her acolytes? I tell ya, he is so sleazy I feel like I need a shower after listening to him speak.
I doubt that minority men turn out for a minority woman like they would for a minority man. But maybe an increase in overall women voters for a minority woman makes up for that.
