Georgia's lieutenant governor on Monday attacked Delta Airlines for dropping a partnership with the National Rifle Association, pledging to block any legislation that includes tax benefits for the airline.
Delta, which is headquartered in Atlanta, ended a discount program for NRA members on Saturday after public backlash following a recent high school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
"Delta is reaching out to the National Rifle Association to let it know we will be ending its contract for discounted rates through our group travel program," Delta said in a statement. "We will be requesting that the NRA remove our information from its website."
In response, Georgia Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle who is running for governor as a Republican this year tweeted that he would block any legislation until Delta renews the partnership.
"I will kill any tax legislation that benefits @Delta unless the company changes its position and fully reinstates its relationship with @NRA," Cagle said Monday. "Corporations cannot attack conservatives and expect us not to fight back."
The Georgia legislature is considering a bill that includes a provision to exempt Delta's purchases of jet fuel from the state sales tax, a move that could potentially save the airline around $40 million.
Several other Georgia GOP lawmakers suggested they would not support the tax change until Delta reversed its decision.
Delta attempted to clarify over the weekend that the decision was nonpartisan, painting it as simply a way to stay out of the debate over guns.
"Delta's decision reflects the airline's neutral status in the current national debate over gun control amid recent school shootings," Delta's statement said. "Out of respect for our customers and employees on both sides, Delta has taken this action to refrain from entering this debate and focus on its business. Delta continues to support

"In addition, if a passenger displays a current NRA membership card, the Delta ticket agent will immediately upgrade the passenger to First Class."
Yes. Too bad. We should all boycott them, but the government should not be involved. There is a name for a government that seeks to control corporations, and it is not “republic”.
Delta should return the money they received in the form of subsidies after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Some of that tax money was from NRA members.
I wish enough people will boycott Delta to put it out of business. I’m sick of left wing fascists.
I do think that Delta may not have considered the consequences of their knee-jerk response. It is like their handling travelers with guns. They screw with us—flag us on departure, our bags are zip-tied and have to be picked up in the baggage claim, and are marked for everyone to see that they have a gun in them—not nice when leaving the airport. Further, you cannot check-in online for your return flight because you have ‘special conditions’. I travel a lot, always bring my gun unless going to a non-2nd amendment state, and have found that ONLY Delta airlines singles out and punishes gun owners. Their parting with NRA is no surprise. Personally I did not know, as a life member of NRA, that I had a discount available.
Government doesn’t have to give Delta special tax breaks, either.
Great! This is the kind of action needed against these freedom hating leftist.
If I used Delta, I’d boycott the s**t out of these AH’s for sticking their noses into this firestorm.
They asked for it.
When the corps take govey money, this is what they can expect. No FREEBEES!
The great irony is that NRA has NOTHING to do with it. The hullabaloo about NRA is merely a straw man hurriedly set up by the loony left to deflect from Federal, State and local law enforcement and school board’s dereliction and malfeasance in every aspect of the case.
I have already stated that I do not think government should provide welfare to corporations.
But corporate welfare should end whether or not a particular corporation supports a particular private organization.
He should also take Delta and United off the states approved vendor list. And announce that state employees who use a company not on the approved list will not be reimbursed for the expenditure.
Way past time. They are deep state controlled by the corrupt banking system. It’s time the states sink the economic system as we know it.
as much as I disapprove of the airline breaking its partnership with the NRA. I hate seeing government officials using there position in government to punish the airline....that is just wrong. it is a abuse of power when any government agency is used to punish specific organizations and business for what they engage in politically I don’t want to see a person in a elected position doing anything but enforcing laws passed or passing laws
Does Delta Airlines offer discounts to the baby killers of Planned Parenthood?
Well, Delta will just have to go to some federal court and demand the $40 million. They’ll get it.
A SPINE!....Glory be!
Casey Cagle for Governor...I have to send him $$$$. He sounds great....
I live in Georgia and was already planning to vote for Casey Cagle, and this sealed it.
Were very fortunate to have other travel options then delta. No more delta until they retract their insulting nra cancellation
Very good. It seems we conservatives always are sitting ducks for attacks. Good to see someone fighting back!
