"I hear everything your saying, but there IS a difference, you were not in a fight or flight scenario, you were in a do or die scenario, and I too have been involved in a do or die scenario, not just training, but action. I wish with all my heart that I had not been, but there it is. You had no choice in your predicament. "

OK, that's weird: what in Heaven's name are you talking about?

1. Every Marine is a volunteer. We chose to join the Marines and serve during wartime. We all understood that we could lose our lives fighting for our country. I have no idea what a "fight or flight scenario" or "do or die" scenario makes any difference or has any bearing on the actions of those cops.

2. Police are volunteers. They know or should know that there is risk to their lives in the performance of their duties. My Nephew-in-Law was killed in the line of duty in California some years ago during a routine traffic stop, so yes the duty is dangerous. They are supposed to be that "thin blue line" between us and the murderous swine. If they don't see it that way, they need to get out.

3.We have had many - too many - mass shootings. Police departments have gone through a sea change in weapons and equipment allegedly to deal with these new threats. Fighting in enclosed spaces should be trained for and rehearsed and I would think that most legitimate police entities have undergone that training. In the Marines we call it Close Quarters Battle (CQB) and it's conducted live fire in Shooting Houses.

4. A cop who is detailed to protect a school is there to fight and if it goes that way, die, to protect those kids. He failed. I don't care why he failed but 17 young people died in terror and he went home.

You can fiddle around with all the conspiracy stuff you want to but the bottom line is that we have had several police failures where the innocents died and the cops went home hale and healthy. You can't camouflage or justify that fact. It's time for integrity and courage to be reintroduced to all of our police agencies.
