Jews can rightly argue that some Poles were anti-Semitic in the days of Russian rule and during the independence years of the military regime before the Nazis came in and some Poles collaborated during the war with the Nazis.
Folks like many of Israel’s first settlers came from Poland including big names like Jabotinsky from Nationalist Zionism. Jabotinsky is the patriarch of Zionism reflected in the Likud Party today.
The Nazis ran Poland and dictated policy like the Holocaust, certainly not the Poles during WW 2.
Yes. Thank you for expressing it.
Correct. I could add that Poland had the lowest number of collaborators relative to population. I know, I don't believe those stats could be calculated either, but they can be found. That there are more Poles honored for saving Jews is beyond question. I suppose you could blame that on Poland having the most Jews. Since most of western Europe expelled them. That the Polish government was the only western government to raise the issue of the slaughter of Jews, who they considered Poles too, is also beyond question. The sad part of this manufactured political controversy is what you said. some Poles collaborated during the war with the Nazis You did say that. If we had this conversation in Warsaw, they'd throw our butts in jail. Which is the 21st century issue. Maybe we'd get to meet President Komorowski, who had the temerity to apologize for incidents where Polish citizens killed Jews. The Jedwabne Pogrom DID NOT HAPPEN, on pain of prison. What a stupid political position to take. Poland has nothing to apologize for, they were targeted for extinction like Jews and Roma, just slower. But to make an issue of those who did collaborate, in Stalinesque fashion, not a good sign
