Downgraded to a Consulate when Israel became a nation, to serve the Arabs in Judea and Samaria. Throughout this long lasting controversy about an Embassy in Jerusalem to deal with Israel we've had a Consulate, the only one on earth that reports directly to State not the local Embassy, to deal with the palestinians.
