CBS News confirmed this image of Scot Peterson (from 2015).
Peterson resigned today after being suspended without pay. He was an armed sheriff's deputy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who Sheriff Israel says stayed outside and never went in to confront the shooter.

Scott Peterson and its alternate spellings sure seems to be a popular name for murder-related news.
Oh hell get his pension NOW. He has 33 years in and is 57
Thats why he resigned
As are the medical shows
Does anyone know this guy's exact job description? Was he supposed to perform actual protection duties or was he supposed to be a big brother DARE moral officer?
Wait...
Years ago, didn’t he kill his wife, Lacy?
Why is he already out of jail?
And also, methinks, why he hid instead of taking action. Not a coward, just a cynical, self-centered SOB.
It is high time we treated police work like the military; we don’t (normally) send 50 year-olds into grueling combat situations, and we shouldn’t do so with cops. Four years in and you’re out for most, and give them something like a GI Bill to pay for school afterwards (or while they’re working, so they can transition to a different job).
They are going to get women killed in the real world.
“”””Oh hell get his pension NOW. He has 33 years in and is 57”””””
Rule of 90..
What’s to protest? He’s in jail.
I would imagine it’s a common name.
There was one of these “School Resource Officers” at our local high school. The big joke was all he ever did was hang out in the gym and ogle the girls PE classes. It wasn’t so funny when he was fired for sending sexually suggestive text messages to a 16 year old (he was 27 married and had two small kids at the time).
I expect that in most sheriff departments, this position would be a good way to finish out a career instead of ending up behind the counter at the department. I still think an older, veteran policeman is great person to have around kids to set an example of what a police officer is. Cowardice happens at all age levels, as does real heroics.
They could be railroading this guy. I don’t trust this story yet.
I understand, but a young single guy might be more courageous than an older one with dependents.
He's the victim here, don'tcha know?
This deputy needs to self terminate with his own gun.
And more likely to score with the high school girls...
A dear little relative of mine attends a private school which was denied sheriff's department protection after a fake "school shooting" threat this week (the public skrewel got deputies though). Nice, huh?
This area happens to have lots and lots of old duffers who have guns and know how to use them, and there is a solution. You want a set of men ( and some women ) who will not only run to the sound of trouble, but who will also do what needs to be done when they get there?
Arm and station a couple of new - and maybe not so new - grandparents. THAT is "skin in the game."
