New Jersey saw one of the nation's biggest surges in arrests by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents last year as the federal government cracked down on unauthorized immigrants during President Donald Trump's first year in office.
There were 3,189 arrests in fiscal year 2017 in ICE's Newark region, which encompasses all of New Jersey, according to data released by the agency. That is a 42 percent increase compared to the previous year.
New Jersey's increase was among the highest in the nation, according to an analysis by the Pew Research Center, a nonpartisan demographic research group. Nationwide, ICE arrests rose about 30 percent to a total of 143,470 arrests during fiscal year 2017, the report said.
Why are the numbers going up?
ICE rapidly increased its arrests nationwide shortly after Trump's inauguration. In one of his first acts as president, Trump directed ICE to broaden its focus on all immigrants living in the country illegally. "Trump signed an executive order on Jan. 25 that expanded ICE's enforcement focus to most immigrants in the U.S. without authorization, regardless of whether they have a criminal record," the Pew Report said.

‘Cuz it’s hard to go anywhere BUT up when you’re at the bottom??
What’s the budget for ICE in ‘17. Let’s see how many taxpayer $$$/hr. each head took to ‘catch’
Yet, I suspect they’ll be using the 30% ‘increase’ to justify an expansion in their budget *rolls eyes*
How will this impact the NJ Senate campaigns?
Whose voters will it energize to get out and vote? And to get their friends and family, who don’t follow politics, to get out and vote?
Do you really believe that most of the illegals in California are Asian?
That’s an idea with some promise. Any kind of bounty program would have to be fine-tuned to avoid helping the Dems at the polls. The green card holder idea has promise. Heck, they could waive the ~$1000 naturalization fee for a green card holder who turns in at least one illegal alien. Fast-tracking it isn’t such a bad idea, either. The way I figure it, someone willing to turn in illegal aliens is likely to be GOP-leaning.
There’s also the risk of liberal organizations doing the immigration equivalent of SWAT-ting as a GOTV tactic. I think that you’d have to control for false leads by over-weighting them. For instance, in calculating reward amounts, one false lead should perhaps cancel out two positive ones. And anyone who exceeds a certain number of false leads should be banned from submitting further leads for some period of time, say 6 months to a year, before the counter resets.

Nope... But Asia, Far East are becoming equal to or maybe surpassing
the illegals that come from the southern border.
I’ll agree that they’re increasing but they’ve got a very long way to go before they can catch up with the Mexican and South American deluge.
I sure wish they would come to Los Angeles and do massive roundups, 200 should be 200,000.
The newly elected a-hole gov in NJ labeled this state a sanctuary and doper state. Why is anyone surprised? Good job idiots!
(Then why not call it the New Jersey region?)
You can report illegals here:
https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/735/~/reporting-illegal-activity
Just make sure you have concrete proof and information regarding illegal alien activity, specific illegals in sanctuary towns, companies hiring illegals, etc. For example, just saying someone is illegal because you heard that person speak Spanish is insufficient. Example, there’s a large Cuban American community here in Northeast New Jersey who are mostly hard working, decent, law abiding and patriotic legal American citizens. The lawbreakers who jumped the border are the target. And unfortunately the large NJ cities here like Newark and Morristown are loaded with them.
Winning! More please.
