Most racist man I ever met (and I grew up in the south) was my former brother in law’s father in Peru. He wanted to make it clear that he was not Peruvian nor was he Spanish. He was Catelano. He even called his grandson who was a bit dark the “n” word, to his face when he was a child. Evil man.
Re Romney, I recall the one black face in his family picture, and a black talking head or anchor was criticized for pointing out Romney’s pandering.
I’m guessing they’ve latinized the pronunciation of that name.
