The catastrophe of the mass murder in Parkland, Florida has elevated the issue of assault weapons to the forefront in the forthcoming November, 2018 elections. There is now an overwhelming national consensus developing for the enactment of a national ban on assault weapons.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) will be very much in the forefront of opposition to such a measure. Because of their controlling influence with both President Donald Trump and the Republican majority leadership in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, the enactment of such a ban will be impossible unless the Democrats win control of the House and Senate this November.
Accordingly, we may well anticipate that the Democrats will in large part make the forthcoming Congressional elections a referendum on a national assault weapons ban. This poses a special problem. for Republican Congressional nominees in New Jersey, a state where the very phrase NRA has a particularly politically malodorous connotation.
This stigma in New Jersey attached to the NRA and anything associated with it has increased over the past three decades. It began with the NRAs war against former Governor Jim Florio and his enactment of the assault weapons ban.

No there is NOT overhwelming support.
There is just propaganda like you’re portraying here.
You want to see a catastrophe? Come for our guns. Try it.
“overwhelming national consensus”
I must have missed their call, they seem to have contacted everyone in the country.
Well, here we go again.
Every time the Democrats start talking about Gun Control, gun sales sky rocket.
They must own stock in the firearms industry.
This is the second article that I have read today from this rino.

Things are not always as they seem and the media does not always report fact......we have gun laws, enforce them...being politically correct around guns is deadly...Someone needs to fire FBI Wray NOW.
LOL. I am in central NJ and see NRA stickers on cars all the time. There are 3 gun shops within a 15 minute drive of where I sit. None of them are going out of business anytime soon due to lack of customers
Molon labe...
I concur. In the north, it’s NRA country. In the south, its NRA country. Retailers are abundant and doing well. Theres a Trump-slump in sales, but the shops I patronize are all holding their own and the Murphy election has begun the cycle anew. Like a few of my friends, I look forward to adding to my collection just to spite the tyrants in my government.
I was told that there are about 70,000 NRA members in NJ, from both parties.
