Careful there. "Unwittingly" gives them some credit by being stupid. How do you think the media finds out about these rallies and mobilizes resources to cover them. It isn't like they catch wind of it or review government issued permits on a daily basis. No, a "source" calls them and gives them details (time, place, numbers, speakers, etc.). These sources are usually "known" folks or organizations. They don't act on stories from tips from just anybody.
Remember, The media knew Fusion GPS and Steele and the leakers. They knew the people that were asking them to help promote and cover the anti-Trump protests. I don't think it's a stretch to think they may have known, or at least should have known, who was supporting the riots, er I mean protests.
