My take has always been cut immigration levels to less than 100k per year and take them from all over the world not just countries with neighboring borders that are illegally crossed.

The vast majority of our legal immigrants come from all over the THIRD WORLD. We need a merit based system. Only 12% of legal immigrants come here based on a merit. The rest are relatives of the other Third Worlders. We are being colonized by the Third World. 80% of our population increases are from immigrants and their US born children.
