1-Was expelled from School after being identified as a potential threat and found with ammunition in his backpack.The police were not called because in Broward County liberals have severed the school-jail pipeline by forbidding reports to police.
2-Apparantly the gun was obtained from a gun safe in a friends house. The safe was a key entry model, the owner had what he thought was the only key. It wasnt.
comment here: key entry gun stafes are the stupidest thing you can do. That is why the expensive ones are combination lock.The owner of the gun should go to jail.
3-The FBI had one soft lead and one really solid lead but failed to follow up. "See something-say something" revealed to be a total joke.
I have to say this: the FBI was all booked up trying to get Hillary elected and then on to trying to get Trump impeached to do even basic investigative work.
4-The Police: 30+ visits. Unable to connect the dots that a mentally disturbed repeat repeat belligerent is stockpiling guns. No one apparantly helped them connect the dots. You may have read today that an almost identical situation was halted in Vermont. There, the community called the State Police. They acted.
5-The community and the neighborhood: People knew he was mentally ill, on meds, and stockpiling weapons. Aside from the one call to the FBI, no one was effective in intervention, especially School officials, but also neighbors.
6-the Meds. if it turns out to be true that he was on or recently stopped taking anti-psychotic meds, then that would be consistent with almost all similar school shootings. violent behavior, depression , suicide are all label listed side effects.
Forgot to add: School is a “gun free zone”.

The NAACP has brokered a groundbreaking collaborative agreement on school discipline with Broward County Public Schools, law enforcement and its community partners. The agreement will serve as a model for school districts nationwide that aim to end the school to prison pipeline wreaking havoc in communities of color.
The collaborative agreement establishes proven alternatives to arrest for misdemeanor infractions by students that include common sense approaches such as counseling and mentorship. The historic agreement leverages the support of Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and local law enforcement by reducing student suspensions, expulsions and arrests, while maintaining safe learning environments for students.
The agreement highlights the role of school officials in determining when student infractions warrant an arrest versus school disciplinary measures, particularly for minor misbehavior/offenses. The collaborative agreement is part of the national movement to end the schoolhouse to jailhouse pipeline.
Chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors Roslyn M. Brock praised the new agreement:
This comprehensive agreement changes the future of education in Broward County and sets the stage for a revolution nationwide. I commend our Florida leaders for bringing all of the parties together to shutdown the school to prison pipeline.

disagree with a few points. first of all, reports I have read state that he bought the gun. therefore it was NOT his neighbor’s. secondly, what guns was he ‘stockpiling’? I heard that he only had the one. what other guns did he own?

Right, this article is confusing where on one hand they are saying he was stockpiling weapons, and on the other hand he stole his friend’s parents gun from a gun safe. So which is it?
I had read where the owner made the guy keep the gun in the safe - but the guy had a key to it.
Growing up our family kept our guns in a “locked” cabinet that had cheap, decrative mesh on the front - it wouldn’t keep anybody out. And the little key to the flimsy lock was under a book on the shelf. That was in my bedroom once my brother left home - I was about 10.
Weird - I never did think about shooting anybody. I did fantasize about rigging up bombs against a bully at school. But it never occurred to me to use a gun! I suppose it was because I knew what damage a gun could do because I had been around them and hunting. But a “bomb” - that was still cartoon stuff. Perhaps similar to some guy that has only shot at paper with a real gun, or at “cartoon” characters on a video game.
The guy had one gun - his own that he had purchased awhile ago. The homeowner made him keep it in the family safe - and gave the guy a key so he could get to his gun.
Re#1 - Isn’t that obstruction of justice by school board and staff? To know about a crime and deliberately NOT report it? Moreso, isn’t it a conspiracy to make it formal county-wide policy? Teachers should teach, but they’re leftist who want to play fairytale social workers. It’s not them to determine how a “jail pipiline” works or does not work.

Here's where it runs off the rails for me.
The owner had secured the weapon in a keyed security cabinet. Unbeknownst to him someone had duplicated his key. The gun was, according to my reading of this event and under these circumstances, technically "stolen".
I don't agree to throwing someone in the slammer for having their gun swiped.
read my post again please. i dont say the gun was his neighbors, i say he obtained it from the gun safe of the neighbor, the neighbor is on record saying he thought he had the only key.
this is a leap, but i bet the neighbor know that Cruz was unstable and kept his AR locked up, or so he thought. mistake in a key entry safe.
I hope that Broward County Public Schools and the NAACP are sued into oblivion over this.
There is a press report that a high school administrator recommended a risk assessment on Cruz to the BCPS Board in January 2017. But it was never done. Its likely because of ending the school to prison pipeline that prevented Board doing the assessment including reaching out to law enforcement to gather information on Cruz.

the key wasnt duplicated. there were two keys and the owner failed to secure the second key. whats the difference between that and leaving the safe unlocked?
if boneheads fail to secure their firearms the rest of us will lose our right to own them. just my view.
The essential point is a failure of gov’t at every step of the way.
