In most cases, yes, but the article said he may have been diagnosed with autism.

Autistic people can’t handle sudden change, and the loss of a parent, especially one so close as his mother, would have a catastrophic effect on him.

In addition to autism, 19 is in the age range when schizophrenia manifests. It is a genuine, serious disease of late teens to young adults, and the majority of those affected are male. This is yet another reason why our society should not be giving powerful psychotropic drugs to young boys. Most, if not all of the young school shooters are males who have been given such drugs for years.
