WEEI hits mute button for sensitivity training as sponsors walk

Money talks. Loud enough that WEEI’s talkers are giving the city a daylong moment of silence.

In an unprecedented move, Entercom execs are pulling the plug on WEEI’s live programming tomorrow so the sports station’s button-pushing talk jocks can undergo sensitivity training after several advertisers jumped ship.

“It’s a matter of the corporate world of broadcast media colliding with the politically incorrect culture of sports talk radio,” said Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers Magazine. “I salute Entercom for the effort. However, sensitivity training for sports talk hosts is like teaching NFL players how to tackle gently.”

A sports station located in Massachusetts. The story encompasses everything from what are deemed offensive comments to businesses pulling ads with result including few hours of non-programming and sensitivity training for all hosts.

So if I were to say that the NHL in the days of fewer helmets and more fights was the more polite NHL, I'd get kicked off the air at that station, eh?

I stopped listening to WEEI, aka Troll radio, a few years ago when Gerry Callahan and Kirk Minihane went way over the line with an ongoing routine joking about pedophilia and insinuating that co host Gary Tanguay was a pedophile. They yukked it up for awhile until Tanguay walked out disgusted. I though for sure everyone involved would be fired but nothing came of it.
