Starting in the 60's Marxists declared that placing psych cases in a hospital against his/her will was oppressive.As a result a huge percentage of the nation's psychiatric beds have been shut down...replaced by "community treatment centers".
Schizophrenia and other major,chronic,psych problems are just as common...with far fewer inpatient beds available for treatment and protection of the public.
