Duterte tried to make nice with the local communists, aka NPA, but some groups kept fighting and broke the truce at Christmas, so He is sending them a headsup.

The regular communists have become “militant activists” instead (so when they are killed, the liberal media goes nuts). But the dirty little secret is that some of the NPA have become like the mafia: Demanding “taxes” or they will kill you or bomb your business. And some are into pushing drugs and being hit men for hire.

Our nephew was killed when 10 years ago when one local politician ordered a hit on his rival and shot at the politicians son (the target had just left). They shooters were NPA who the local group had thrown out for doing too many private hit jobs.

That seems to be the pattern many from former communist regime follow. Their skill set of setting up underground organization, sabotage, and guerrilla warfare are not much of legitimate use after they laid down their arms. However, it is perfect for running organized crime. So many former communist countries in Eastern Europe seem to have crime syndicates of that kind.

I am mainly talking about former secret police elements, but other holdovers also latched onto organized crime.
