Why does replacing food stamps with food so anger liberals?

President Trump has proposed replacing some food stamp grants with actual food. This has curiously enraged liberals, who you would think would be delighted to see "hungry" people getting food.

I used to get the Gov cheese from some friends on SS that got the free cheese every month just for being 65.

Now that I’m 65 and getting SS I find out they stopped the free cheese, damn them!

Because it will show the masses how many people are on the dole. We used to have soup kitchens. You could “see” who was in line. You could “see” who went to welfare office to get food.

Now, the grocery stores get their cut of the action, the “people” get to decide that they want cheetos instead of lettuce, and no one knows who is on the dole and who isn’t.

If people could ID the food deliveries they would realize what a mess our world REALLY is.

Because they're talking about the government purchasing, storing, packaging, and distributing food parcels. When was the last time the government ever did anything in an efficient and cost-effective manner? This dumb idea will just add to the costs.

Why not just contract it out to Amazon ?

Back in the 1950's in South bend, Indiana I recall a store near where we lived that sold Government Cheese, and beans. It got them from people who would receive them free, and sold them to the store. My Dad speculated that the store also got them from the distributors selling what was supposed to be given out.

To some people food stamps are just another form of US currency. I remember when car dealers would take down payments in food stamps.

Lib minds explode!

Currently an EBT card can be used for withdraw cash withdrawals. Then the cash can be spent on anything. A can of food, fresh produce, meat etc. are not readily converted for cash flow.

Maybe for once the food will be fed to the children on the weekends, as intended. After all the children are fed throughout the week, if they attend school.

Maybe the Libs have something. By allowing EBT cards for cash withdrawals, they think they are preventing robberies etc. by those who have no other way of funding their drug addiction. (sarc).

I wonder if EBT cards contribute to drug addictions, or even the addition to EBT cards themselves.

If you don’t have to work for what you receive, it can be addictive.

So, render the cards only usable by the designated recipient, with an electronic fingerprint scan.

they’re upset because they like their subjects to sell their food stamps for drug money, and use the benefit to buy a bunch of junk. Getting actual food, is not their idea of what food stamps are for.

Our country has a problem shaming people around food (esp women). Eat too much - someone will yell at you to go on a diet, eat too little someone will yell at you to eat a donut. Vegan or vegetarian - you are called a pretentious asshole. Eat meat - murderer. Eat fast food - lazy. Cook at home - must be nice to have all that time on your hands. If you are fat like me, and eat a salad out in public, some asshole will comment (to your face or loudly behind your back) that when you get home, you will eat a cake. If you are thin and eat a burger, be prepared to hear some snide asshole make a comment about how you'll throw it up.

That part of her screed is spot-on; could have come from a FReeper. The rest is less than honest, as she fails to mention the abuses spawned by any program that puts free money into the hands of the indigent and irresponsible.

When my dad left my mom (this was in the early 60’s) with five little kids, she had to go on welfare. We got the free food and it was all really good. It got us through those hard times. Yet I knew a family who received the same kind of food. All they did was complain about it. You would think they would recognize how lucky they were to get it! Some people just have to complain! We moved on. Mom got a good job and dad came back. I hate welfare, but I am grateful for the food we received that sustained us in those hard times.

That would never work. Grandma is always sending her kids and other relatives to the grocery store with her card. It's extremely common for people to use others' cards. The practice is ubiquitous...
