I couldn’t begin to say whether there is a definite parallel, but Japan is in the midst of suicide by low birth rate.

Europe would be the same, except they import Muslims to make up the difference. So which is better off? At least Japan has the option to recover peacefully, if they’re willing to take the necessary steps.
As was Germany. That's what really happened. The politicians suddenly started noticing their socialistic ponzi schemes couldn't be maintained unless the number of people in the country was growing. Unfortunately they chose ... poorly ... when they decided how to fix the problem. While the immigrants they found to supplement their populations, do reproduce quickly, the culture they bring with them is the most destructive on the planet.
But those who remain, will be Japanese.
