Strange that they’d use the scare quotes in the headline.

Russian flight procedures have always been a little bit suspect, especially winter operations.

Sad. I was born in Ukraine and would never get on a Ukraine-made plane.
Unfortunately it’s still a third world country. Equivalent to some African nations in many aspects. Some relatives still use outhouses.
I’ve called Eastern Europe “white Africa” before. Rich in resources but everything is stolen and 90% of people live in shitholes surrounded by gaudy gangsters.

There's reasons U.S. passenger jets don't crash like the used to. Adherence to rigid maintenance schedules is chief among them.

Of course. You should never fly on carriers that service planes in the third world.
Unfortunately if you are flying to Siberia your options are very limited

Oddly, witnesses usually say that even when the plane wasn’t burning.

That was how the original headline was shown on the BBC website. I didn’t alter in any way. There was likely a revised headline after the breaking news appeared.
To: Quality_Not_Quantity
No, the original BBC article had the quote marks in its headline. ConservativeStatement copied their headline accurately. They have been removed since the initial posting.

I'd wager it isn't the plane that's the problem, it's the lack of proper maintenance. Maintenance costs money and takes revenue-generating aircraft out of the game. This is probably right. I fly to/from/in Russia a lot, and I would never fly on a carrier that isn't Aeroflot.
