The winter weather this year has been more east(cold) and west(Warm) than north and south due to a giant Rossby Wave in the jet stream that has been locked into place since mid-December.

While it has been very cold in the US east of the Rockies, the country west of the Rockies including California the SW, Pacific Northwest, western Canada and Alaska has been much warmer than normal.

So record ice in Eastern Canada is not surprising.

Yup. We're in Reno NV and pretty mild. Our quaking aspens are starting to bud already. Little snow. Same in NM, Utah southern CO. 🤔❄️🇺🇸
