Fast-food delivery battles are heating up.
On Thursday, Yum Brands the parent company of KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut announced it had entered into a partnership with delivery company Grubhub. With the deal, KFC and Taco Bell will roll out delivery at thousands of locations across the US in 2018.
McDonald's made a major delivery push in 2017, going from a handful of locations testing delivery to roughly 5,000 locations delivering orders via UberEATS.
Here's how the two fast-food giants delivery strategies measure up.
McDonald's is modernizing and has a huge advantage on speed
McDonald's delivery drive is part of CEO Steve Easterbrook's' more general efforts to modernize the brand, with initiatives such as adding kiosks to stores and rolling out mobile orderings.
"People are so used to living their lives with one click of a button," Easterbrook told Business Insider on the topic of delivery in April 2017.
By partnering with UberEATS, McDonald's gained access to a sleek, super-modern delivery interface. According to the company, customers tend to spend more and shop at different times such as late at night than when they visit stores.
While originally there was skepticism over if customers would be willing to pay the delivery fee required by UberEATS, McDonald's say that it has been impressed by demand. In a call with investors in January, McDonald's said that delivery was the biggest contributor to comparable sale growth in several major markets in the fourth quarter.

And the crazy thing is, FF is more expensive. You can make a small salad, bake a potato (or micro wave in a hurry), cook up some 95% lean hamburger, forget the bun, and have a very hearty, and actually pretty healthy meal, for less money.
But it takes at least an IQ of 100 to understand such basic facts. That leaves 50% of the population consigned to spending more for less, all the while gaining weight and ruining their health. What a deal!
Because there’s nothing better than cold fries and a burger when you’re hungry at midnight.
Of those 3, I can’t ever see myself saying, I really want a McD or Taco Bell... lets have it delivered.
The stuff is horrid enough when you get it at the store, just imagine how it will taste after its been in a delivery car for 20 or 30 minutes...
KFC is the only one of the 3 who even has a product you can consider deliver with IMHO.
Im familiar with the other things youve mentioned but not the amusement truck. Would you please extrapolate? Im very interested.
I agree about the coffee. Didn't they switch to a Paul Newman or some other gourmet brand a few years back? Anyway, I do like their coffee and it tastes good black (the true test of quality coffee).
As for food, the Egg McMuffin is the most perfect fast food sandwich ever made. They also switched back to using real butter a few years ago (from liquid margarine) and put them on the menu all day - that made a huge difference. BTW, margarine tastes awful and is not healthy.
I prefer making my own Egg McMuffins sandwiches at home (using sprouted-grain english muffins, swiss cheese and real bacon) but the restaurant ones will do in a pinch.
It may have been a regional thing but there small (kids size) rides build on pick up trucks - I found a photo of an example linked above.

The food delivered to you IN the restaurant is luke warm to start with. I imagine the food delivered miles away will be stone cold.
#27 Eating a few hot fries as youre driving away from the drive thru is a big part of the experience.
The driver will do this for you and describe the experience : )
McD has their own brand of coffee that I buy at the grocery store. I love it. Of course, something like Philz Coffee is better, but I can’t get it locally and it’s pricey.
Love the egg McMuffins, but I wish they used real American cheese instead of that rubbery stuff they call cheese. I agree that homemade ones are better.
TB needs to put the rabbit food at the bottom of the tacos, then add the sour cream, meat and cheese on top.
