“Clearly she doesnt keep it holstered on her person regularly. If she did, she would have noticed the missing weight of her firearm.”
I agree with you, there is something amiss here. I carry in the front pocket, with my wallet in a rear pocket. I habitually pat each pocket as I leave a building or vehicle to see if both objects are still there. When I carry holstered the weapon never leaves me, there’s no reason to remove it, not even for bathroom duties.
She needs to be canned. Some little twerp could have found it and considering today’s mindless youth, pulled the trigger.
I really dont want to appear as though I am offering any defense for this lady, but most IWB concealed carriers (or people who do not carry every day) are totally unaware of the difficulty involved in trying to pee with a laden duty belt on; esp for women. Once you unbuckle it, everything twists. Its frustrating. A great number of people remove the pistol from the holster to balance the issues. Doing this, however, outside of a secured facility (ie, police department back area), creates a huge risk that isnt worth the convenience. At a school? No way.
(I solved the problem by moving to a stiffened battle belt (HSGI) and a removable/detachable holster. Better. Safer.)
Ok, I get if now. Thanks.
I learned from a partner, ALWAYS shake yourself down before you exit the restroom. My partner was working single man hospital duty one night, went and used the restroom in the hospital room ( the prisoner got cuffed to the bed). He does his thing and comes back. Shortly there after the prisoner got up (with leg shackles) and was escorted to the restroom. Prisoner did his thing, is escorted to bed. About 5 minutes later, the prisoner turns to my partner and said “ by the way, you left your gun in the bathroom”. My partners eyes, he told me later were as big as saucers! He went and retrieved his gun with alacrity! He left the force about a year later. It’s just as well. The job really wasn’t for him.
