I found this blurb on FB (the Free Dr. Mudd page) that mentions a Philip Mudd as the great-great Grandson of Dr. Samuel A. Mudd. The link to the actual article on FB doesn't work, but he is described as “a former Obama Intel Chief Nominee.” I would think that this is our boy.

I just watched the CSPAN interview you posted. He was definitely NOT joking. He comes right out and says that Mudd is his great great grandfather.

Actually, Mudd's most famous relative would be Harcourt Fenton Mudd.
