THE PRESIDENT: Okay, thank you very much. We have a very special group of people with us today. These are escapees from North Korea. There have been many of them over the last year, and there seems to be more and more. Its a tough place to live, and people arent liking it. Theres great danger, great risk.
Seong-ho was with us the other night at the State of the Union Address, and really made an incredible impression on me and on everybody else, both on television and in that magnificent room. And I had an opportunity to meet with some of the folks, and their stories are amazing. And I thought, through our really fabulous interpreter, we could probably go through a couple of the stories, because theyre incredible and very inspirational. So, escapees from North Korea.

MS. LEE: Mr. President, my name is Hyeonseo Lee, and Im the author of The Girl with the Seven Names. And I come from the most ridiculous country on Earth.
First, I want to thank you for that you said the U.S. will act alone on North Korea if China does not help. That made me cry, because thats what exactly what I wanted to hear for so long from leaders like you.
And I was present at your speech at the South Koreas National Assembly last November, and I really wanted to shout with joy because I was so moved. You put the spotlight on North Koreas human rights issues in front of the entire South Korean National Assembly, and refreshed the attention on these kind of issues. So I cannot thank you enough.
Escaping from North Korea is not like leaving another country. Its more like leaving another universe. I will never truly be free of its gravity...

Thought you might enjoy this!
You get to catch your breath and adapt and rest for a time. Make a contribution to the Republic if it suits you to do so, when you have healed for a while.
The guy with the homemade crutches at the SOTU was incredible. His story is disturbing and sad, but incredible. Inspirational.

Amen to that. I literally tear up thinking of what precious REST the LORD wants them to enjoy, the embrace He envelops them in, and how much He want to feed them, cheer them, etc...It's as if He Himself is presenting these individuals to the world. These people who have been voiceless and living in the shadows. But He's been seeing and watching over them this whole time.
God bless our President!
Your words are precious

TY for posting.
Before I visited South Korea and the DMZ last year, I read “The Girl With Seven Names”. It is such an inspirational book. She describes the terrible conditions in North Korea, her frightful escape through China and the difficult adjustment to freedom in South Korea. It is a wonderful and enlightening book.
It is so moving to read these testimonies of those who have escaped and how precious freedom is to them. Just beautiful!
Thank you Guenevere. Indeed God bless our President, our precious country, and our precious freedoms!
Thanks Jane
When totally ignorant, or totally traitorous people make claims that reunification of the two halves of Korea are possible with the status quo in the North, they deserve nothing less than to be forced, for the rest of their natural lives, to go through what the civilian North Korean defectors have had to endure.
