Full title: Holy Cross student newspaper changes its name to 'The Spire' ahead of Board of Trustees decision about school's moniker 'The Crusader'
A day before the College of the Holy Cross Board of Trustees is expected to decide whether or not to keep "The Crusader" as the school's moniker and mascot, the student newspaper has announced a change in the 93-year-old publication's name.
The student newspaper will now publish under the name "The Spire," students wrote in a statement issued Friday.
"The Spire" pays homage to the distinctive spires of Fenwick Hall, Holy Cross' main building and oldest structure, which is at the center of campus. Its first edition as "The Spire" will be published Feb. 9.

Yep, and we know that mention of the Crusades is offensive to Moslems, and they might get violent against us if we don’t change this offensive name........
Would “The Dhimmi” be considered inappropriate? If not for the crusades, that’s probably the best status we could hope for.
Try to imagine the Spire Mascot. Hmmm...
Holy Cross student newspaper changes its name to ‘Holy Crap’
Next they change to to Minaret.
My brother is a 1990 graduate of Holy Cross. He was a full 4-year ROTC scholarship student. His Professor of Military Science was MAJ Joe Dunford USMC. The same Joe Dunford that is now General Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. I cant wait to make fun of my bro for this disgrace. A Catholic school afraid of offending Muslims. Pussies.
They should change it to the The Cuck.
Come on baby bite my spire (with apologies to The Doors).
So it is now legitimate to quote that paper as “per Spire, the ...”?
