Just being remorseful is insufficient for salvation. You have to be born again.
That’s your branch of Christianity’s belief. Roman Catholicism says if you make a good (you must really believe what your saying) act of contrition you may get purgatory but you save yourself from the fires of hell.
And I’m not say one or the other is correct. Just that there are different takes on it.
