I’ve been asking that question for several years (ever since Lerner skated). I ask it here and everywhere. I never get an answer. Sometimes people say “their union protects their pension”. But, why are they protected if they committed a crime while employed by the government?

Their union has nothing to do with it. There is a provision in title 5 for federal civilian personnel convicted of crimes related to treason, sedition, and the like to lose their pensions. It does not extend to fraud etc. Military persons convicted at a court marshal could lose their pensions over a larger array of crimes.

The one sure way to ensure they lose their pension is for the prosecution to ensure that any plea deal include a statement they will withdraw their contributions to the pension fund and waive the pension for life for any crime not codified as a required dis-enabler.

I say they continue to get the pension, only it will pay monthly for their stay in the pen.
