In a rare public statement on Wednesday, the FBI said that it has "grave concerns" about a Republican-crafted memo alleging corrosive abuse of U.S. surveillance powers by the Justice Department that is expected to be released in the coming days.
"With regard to the House Intelligence Committees memorandum, the FBI was provided a limited opportunity to review this memo the day before the committee voted to release it," the bureau said.
"As expressed during our initial review, we have grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memos accuracy."

“Ten bucks says this was sent to the media by some @sshole in the FBI associated with McCabe who’s desperately trying to keep the lid on this memo. “
And that “person in the FBI” may just be a janitor.
Well, this should fire whoever wrote it because they’re full of crap.
Bill Priestap is most likely the FBI official who saw the memo after Wray.
.It has been alleged that he is deep state to the max. He is probably the source for this article.
“Katie Bo Williams “
Never heard of her before...
Who is this person called The FBI that the article keeps quoting? I’ve never heard of him or her before.
Well, I’m going to continue to be a dissident here and say the “memo” should not be released, or at least, not yet.
We are faced with a large and well-organized campaign of sedition against the lawful government of the United States. There are two possible ways to suppress the campaign and punish the malefactors, neither one of which has anything to do with Congress.
The first is what Lincoln referred to as “the ordinary course of judicial proceedings”.
The second, when “combinations too powerful to be suppressed by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings” arise is the army, or, more exactly, the militias of the several States.
A draft document naming individuals and ascribing guilt to them, coming from Congress, could amount to a Bill of Attainder. These are forbidden to Congress for good reasons.
Such a document could also tip off conspirators who are not yet aware that their roles and identities are known.
But worst of all, the document could prevent prosecution of the guilty by unfair publicity before the government puts its case in front of a court.
Now, many have said, rightly, that the DOJ/FBI can’t/won’t investigate itself, and that Congress is a backup.
But Congress can’t convene a Grand Jury, issue indictments, appoint prosecutors, arrest and hold for trial suspects or prevent their flight. It cannot try the accused, and it cannot punish them.
The one thing the lying Democrats have right is that this “memo” was created by the GOP staff alone. IF the memo could deliver justice, I wouldn’t care about that, but it can’t, and it won’t.
As such, it will become a source of endless partisan wrangling and will deflect attention from the underlying facts.
If Sessions can’t do the job, he should be fired. But taking care that the laws are faithfully exceuted is Trump’s job at the end of the day. It’s not Devin Nunes’ job.
If Trump wants to stay in office, he’s better get busy using all the forces at his disposal, including force if necessary.
Not just "The Hill." WaPo is running with this, USA Toady, TheWeek, CBS, The Daily Beast, Politico, LA Times.
All of them are presenting the same two paragraph release as authentic from the FBI and significant.
As I posted above, "the ball is in Wray's court." Rosentein once issued a press release that torpedoed, IIRC, a NYT narrative. That release was not expressly specific, but close enough to tell exactly what story he was disputing.
In this case, the news is stating as fact that the two page statement came from the FBI. If that is false, then Wray needs to make a direct and official statement. Just repeat verbatim the two paragraphs, and assert it is not FBI position.
Doesn’t the FBI have a spokesman?
If it doesn’t come from the spokesman or the director then it’s not “The FBI” saying it.
So now we all know the real reason for spiking the memo HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH NATIONAL SECURITY. Rather it is simply CYA by the FBI and every other agency that mishandled (that’s generous) the 2016 investigations of Clinton and Trump and submitted a FISA warrant request based on false info from questionable sources.
Since there is not national security reason to keep the memo secret it should be released - let the Dems release their own spin memo and the public can judge which facts make more sense.
As far as I’m concerned, Wray should be fired for not responding to this by now. One way or the other.
Exactly. Why hasn’t he responded to this?
F ‘em.
The it is time to release it all...there is nothing “top secret” except for names of foreign spies(black them out)....all the rest has to do with how our government operated under Obama and we are a government for the people not for the “elite”. Absolutely nothing about this should be “classified”.
You have some good points. I’ve also been of the opinion that I’m not interested in anything beyond perp walks, but unfortunately or not, the politics and media of this situation as opposed to the law will determine the outcome, so stuff like this probably has to go on.
So what! LOL. The FBI has had it since Monday, and the time before the vote is not relevant in this procedure.
The committee votes to make a public disclosure, sends that the the WH. The WH would be derelict to not seek input from agencies affected by the public disclosure. It's up to the agencies to present their arguments to Trump, who has the power to object to disclosing to the public.
That line in this two paragraph "statement from the FBI" is evidence that it, the statement, is NOT from the FBI.
No matter - the public will believe what it first heard, even if that is false. Damage done.
Tomorrow is a new day, and will bring a new lie from the press.
If you believe the NYTimes headline, he was the one that issued it:
F.B.I. Director Condemns Republicans Move to Release Secret Memo
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/31/us/politics/fbi-director-republicans-secret-memo.html
There is reasonable speculation that Priestap has flipped and ratted out the conspirators.
I disagree, but your thought give me a humorous thought. With all the bad press Trump has gotten, he must be totally immune to any sort of prosecution!
Their SOP is so obvious now that our eyes are open. They can take their dis-information campaign and peddle it elsewhere. And Wray, PDJT may have confidence in you, (he initially said that about Comey, too), but others do NOT. Quit buddying up with Rosenstein and be a Judge Jeanine, for goodness sake.
