Departing Gov. Sam Brownback wants Kansas residents to observe his final full day in office with prayer and fasting, but some critics are opting for pizza and beer.
The governor's office issued its last proclamation, designating Tuesday as a "Day of Prayer and Fasting." He's resigning at 3 p.m. Wednesday to become U.S. ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom.
Critics posted plans on Facebook for a 24-hour "Bye Brownback" pizza and beer party starting at 3 p.m.

They will reap what they sew.
I can understand somebody not fasting if they do not feel it is right for them.
But mocking this is impossible to understand.

I”m with the critics
A lot of people aren't sorry to see Brownback go I guess. It sets up an interesting primary between Colyer and Kobach.
You’re against prayer and fasting?
Why don’t you like Brownback?
Because he's leaving? Is the fasting supposed to be in celebration or in sorrow?
Don't live there so I don't care for him one way or the other. My sister lives in Johnson County and she and her husband aren't big fans of his.
The arrogance astounds even me.
I remember being told by them they would never be citizens and how much they hated this country (I know I know)
To top it off, one of them went to K-State, got an engineer degree and still bad mouths this country. For an opportunity he never would have had in Mexico and he took the place of an actual American citizen.
They will reap what they sow though....
The reasonable assumption is that it’s a petition for success in Brownback’s new assignment.
Ambassador for Religious Freedom? If he screwed that up then would anyone know?
He was really nasty in his male feminist replies to fathers’ rights and conservative family rights advocates during the ‘90s.
Did you mean, “They will rip what they sow?”
That is an understatement. He took a perfectly fine state and completely destroyed it. The economy is in shambles. Whoever replaces him will have one hell of a job to do. I don’t envy that person at all.
That’s irrelevant, isn’t it?
