The FBIs top brass initiated conversations with a White House official that were quickly leaked to CNN, according to a new book.
Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe asked to speak privately with White House chief of staff Reince Priebus following a February 2017 intelligence briefing. The scene is described in Media Madness, Howard Kurtzs new book on the press and its relationship with the Trump administration. McCabe said he asked for the meeting to tell Priebus that everything in a New York Times story ... was bullsh-t.
...
McCabe claimed to want Priebus to know the FBIs perspective that this story was not true. Priebus pointed to the televisions that were going non-stop on the story. He asked if the FBI could say publicly what he had just told him. McCabe said hed have to check, according to the book.
McCabe reportedly called back and said he couldnt do anything about it. Then-FBI director James Comey reportedly called later and also said he couldnt do anything, but did offer to brief the Senate Intelligence Committee on the matter later that week, suggesting theyd spill the beans publicly. Youll never guess what happened next, according to the book:
Now, a week later, CNN was airing a breaking news story naming Priebus. According to multiple U.S. officials, the network said, the FBI rejected a White House request to publicly knock down media reports about communications between Donald Trumps associates and Russians known to U.S. intelligence.
Priebus was stunned by the implication that he was pressuring law enforcement. Had he been set up? Why was the FBI leaking this information when one of its top officials had initiated the conversation?

Nice, the FBI is initiating fraudulent sting operations inside the WH.
Working with the enemedia to shape stories and public opinion against their political opponents...
The FBI can legally lie to you, not you to them though.
McCabe. A week ago MSM was filled with poor Andy is having bad things said about him stories. The little prick belongs in jail yet Wray may have threatened to quit if they fired poor Andy. Its all just sickening.
People are finally seeing just how the Swamp, the Deep State and its media allies operate.
A day of reckoning will soon come when Trump will be forced to start draining the DC cesspool in earnest. Firing and/or prosecuting a few prominent people will send a powerful message to the rest of the corrupt denizens of the Swamp. And he needs to strike before they do.
Mollie is one of very few media types that I trust. Not only that, she writes very well - explaining complex matters in a smooth narrative.
Coney told Trump in private he was not under investigation. In public he told congress there was an investigation and would not deny that Trump was part of it.
He lied to the president. Flynn was fired for lying.
Rosenstein fired Comey for assuming the role of prosecutor when he was only an investigator. Misrepresentation is a form of lying.
We now know Comey was running an investigation through Strzok against Trump. Comey lied.
Comey said there was no wiretapping of Trump. We now know there was and that Comey lied.
Comey had to be fired.
McCabe is as dirty as Comey, Meuller, Stroczk, Page, etc.
Has Andy actually been seen in public recently? Thought I read a Q drop that indicated Andy had a nice visit to Gitmo and then to a safe house in the US where he is imitating McCain and turned songbird?
And why didn’t Priebus go to the press? Instead he resigned and ran and hid like the corrupt rino coward that he is.
What "press?" We have no "press." Only propaganda outlets for the Deep State.
McCabe looks like a squealer
Les Nessman's son.
Comey leaked when he met with Trump at Trump towers. He testified to Congress that he did. And now McCabe. When an intelligence agency has no fear of the government, that’s a police state.
The FBI needs to be abolished. It has a decades long track record of illegal acts. It is a creation of the Woodrow Wilson progressive era thinking.
It must go.
