Why does the Prime Minister think it does her good to be seen with that global embarrassment, Donald Trump? Why do politicians and media commentators in Britain prattle about how the ‘Special Relationship’ between Britain and the USA is still flourishing?

Something that is not true shared as fact among group members who put the importance of group inclusion above the truth.
Mr. Hitchens remembers how smart he was as a teenage boy about Vietnam but skipped History class and didn’t get the memo since about the Nazi’s bombing London or the Nazi’s running the Brits off the mainland at Dunkirk. Great Britain is no longer “Great” and is a failed State with it’s largest city controlled by Muslims. Hitchens should write an article on that FACT.................but, alas, Liberals don’t do FACTS. Someone once called them “Inconvenient Truths”. The Bible says “to thine own self be true”. I recommend Liberal Hitchens try a little dose of that.
Especially WWI, the Brits complained that the U-Boats were sinking their ships, while Britain was enforcing a Naval blockade on Germany. It was much easier to cut-off Germany from ships than Britain, the U-Boats were just trying to level the playing field.
And the fact is, if the US was truly neutral, they would have told the Brits they wouldn’t get anything from us, unless they ended their blockade of Germany.
Ah yes, but if you follow Hitchens, that was only for our own self-interest, because "we" wanted to weaken Britain, and look what actually happened ... in the event, Britain was weakened, and has never been the same. No mention of galloping Socialism, crippling taxation, the nationalization of healthcare and industry, and other self-inflicted woes, of course.

He was a Democrat, the Party of nasty pieces of work, e.g. slavery, the ku klux klan, Jim Crow laws, segregation, corruption, voter fraud, a political party that championed slavery and has never changed its morality, which made Robert Byrd, former Grand Dragon (or whatever they call it) of the ku klux klan, Majority Leader of the US Senate in the 21st century, and whose most recent President removed the bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office.
