I could not agree more. When I visited Ireland a few years ago a fellow I met in Killarney joked that Ireland was like America's 51st state.
"Too bad you can't immigrate and become an American citizen, thanks to an Irish immigrant named Ted Kennedy and his immigration bill," I told him.
It actually had a lot more to do with Rep. Emanuel Celler than Kennedy. Kennedy for his part was happy to be the face of it and lie through his teeth about the legislations objectives.
