In a post-war first, the United States is poised to send an aircraft carrier to Vietnam in March, officials of both sides said on Thursday, dramatic evidence of deepening military ties between them, more than four decades after the Vietnam War.
The announcement came during a two-day visit to Hanoi by U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis that had been expected to focus on shared concerns about China.
The proposed visit is set for March at the central port of Danang, Vietnams defence ministry said in a statement. Such a visit by a U.S. aircraft carrier could bring the most U.S. forces to Vietnam since the conflict ended in 1975.

Ping
I remember reading that years ago a port visit by any large surface ship enriched the local community by $50,000,000.
Add in inflation and it could easily happen today.
US Navy aircraft carrier to visit DaNang
Maybe Vietnam looks forward to cross dressing sailors, homosexuals running loose and every other deviant Mattis allows in the military now.
What do the Chicoms think?
I do not think the ChiComs are very pleased. They may not say so out loud, but it will definitely be voiced within the government and military. The hostility between China and Vietnam goes back several hundred years, if not longer.
...Aircraft carrier to Danang ping....
Thanks for posting iowamark. Any idea which ship?
The return of “Yankee Station”!!
I kinda doubt that. That’d be around 10k per sailor if each and every one of them was let go on liberty. Nuclear power so they aren’t buying fuel. They won’t be buying jet fuel or food from Vietnam. And a port fee wont be 50 million.
Can you imagine. You last saw the US Navy in the late 60s or early 70s. Then the modern bunch sails in flying rainbow flags, colliding with other ships, and they send chubby women, homos, and even trannies ashore?
Imagine the shock.
Thanks for the ping. I understand the South Vietnamese people still like Americans.
Maybe inflation has hit “Dogpatch”.

Thanks. ‘Was just curious.
Yep.
Yep.
Sure true in the South.
Vietnamese like Americans in general. We have Vietnamese students/faculty on campus.
